Courses

All courses/classes and workshops are paced and designed at a gentle level to suit people new to Tai Chi and Qigong as well as those deepening their practice. Please read the Safety Statement at the bottom of this page. Thank you all for your efforts, interest, engagement and enthusiasm.

OPEN DAYS

Open days are held a number of times throughout the year in various venues to offer opportunities to experience these slow meditative movement practices for yourself. In the course of a morning or afternoon, we can learn how they can help to refresh, strengthen and renew our energy.  We will explore how we can use these practices to help build a sense of steadiness in the midst of change and challenge, and as a resource to help us move towards processing our experiences with more ease. The flowing movements can be inspiring, beautiful, but also grounding and centering.

The next Open Session will be posted here.

New Course - Contemplative Awareness & Meditation

1st October 2024

Working with the meditative aspects of Qigong, I plan to open a new ongoing meditation class to nourish the inner places of stillness, contemplation and wisdom. When we quiet the body and mind, great peace, rest and healing can take place.

We will be guided by teachings from the Mystics of all traditions, seated Qigong, silent Meditation as well as practices to cultivate deeper listening, stillness and presence. By navigating the landscape of stillness, we learn to recognise and stabilise as our true nature. â€‹

This class may suit those drawn to Contemplation, the Wisdom teachings, as well as those recovering from injury/illness or who prefer a seated practice.

Glounthaune Cork  -  Thursday 12th September

Daoyin Yang Sheng Gong 12-movement Form.

Qigong for Health & Wellbeing - Daoyin Yang Sheng Gong

Glounthaune Community Centre, Glounthaune, Cork. T45 K124.

A 6-week course commencing Thursday 12th September 2024.

The Daoyin Yang Sheng Gong set is a sequence of 12 Qigong movements which was developed by Professor Zhang Guang De in the 1970s in the Beijing University of Physical Education. Seeking to gain relief from illness himself, he embarked on a deep study of traditional Chinese medicine, and especially the ancient Daoyin movements.  This medical Qigong system that he created awarded him a State honour, and the sequence was incorporated into the national fitness programme in China.

Daoyin is the original name for Qigong practices, and translates to "leading and guiding the qi". Where intention goes, qi follows. By bringing our sincere intention to our movements, we learn that this also guides the flow of energy in the body.

Yang Sheng is a term that refers to self-cultivation practices that nourish life, and are thought to promote health, well-being and longevity.

This is a beautiful set with tremendous detail in each movement, designed to support and promote good health throughout the body, mind and spirit.

As with all courses, we emphasise the core principles of T'ai Chi and Qigong. We take a meditative approach with inner listening to the body and its feedback. We will continue to build on mindful awareness as we practice.

Glounthaune Cork - Tai Chi Continuation

Tai Chi Short Form Continuation & Qigong

Glounthaune Community Centre

6-Week Course commencing Thursday 12th September 2024.

This Form Class is open to those who have already completed some introductory courses with me in Qigong/Tai Chi, or those who have previous experience of Tai Chi.

This weekly class will work on both Qigong Forms and the Tai Chi Short Form.

Each week we will explore and add on new postures, thereby developing and expanding our movements into the longer Tai Chi sequence. We will also explore the historical and cultural meaning of the Dao and the influence of Daoist Principles on Tai Chi.

The class will feature partner work, and learning the energetic and martial applications of movements. It is designed to bring forward all the Qigong and embodiment principles we have learned from the introductory/previous Tai Chi and Qigong courses, and incorporate these experientially into our movements. It should offer a rich exploration for those who wish to develop or deepen into their Qigong and Tai Chi practice.
