Course Details

A 5-week course commencing Thursday 22nd February 2024. This year marks the Year of the Wood Dragon, and we will take some time to explore some movements that are inspired by the Dragon. Contrary to many western interpretations, the Chinese Dragon is a benevolent mythological being, and embodies the qualities of strength, power, confidence, adaptability, wisdom and transformation. Dragon is also a symbol of longevity.  For this series, we will explore the historical and cultural context of Dragon. We will learn the  Swimming Dragon Qigong Form, as well as Five Element Theory as it applies to Dragon. We will also explore more flowing movements inspired by Dragon, to help us cultivate and welcome these qualities within ourselves. Swimming Dragon Qigong is reputed to benefit the flexibility and mobility of the body, to aid digestion, to help detoxify and strengthen the body, to improve movement through the back and flexibility of the waist.  The beautiful coiling and spiral dance-like movements are joyful and expressive, like Dragon. By inviting these movements into the body with mindful intention, we are helping our whole system to strengthen, balance, recalibrate, and integrate.  With Qigong, we especially welcome the benefits to the Nervous System, the Body, Mind, Heart and Spirit. Wellbeing is felt as a sense of being grounded and centered, with a more embodied experience of the movements. These slow flowing practices can remind us of the reasons why they are often called Meditation in Movement. Through regular practice, this mindful, more embodied way of being becomes more effortless, habitual, and comfortable.  A return to naturalness.  Venue: Glounthaune Community Centre, Glounthaune, Cork.
